Amidst the Evening Foliage

Just a little farther... a little farther... Kanna found herself walking along a long, empty street. The last of the sun's rays were shining feebly on her back as she continued walking along the river bank. She could feel the temperature dropping as the light faded, but continued her journey onwards. The ground felt warm beneath her bare feet and her hair billowed away from her in the fresh evening air.

Glancing quickly at her watch Kanna quickened her pace as she approached the wooden bridge leading to the forest on the outskirts of her city. Tonight the lush, green forest was full of life all around her, yet still retained a silent and natural. The delicate fluttering of wings in the branches above told Kanna that some birds were settling in for their evening rest. She could hear cicadas from somewhere off in a distance, chirping their sweet songs of twilight. The faint glow from beyond the trees told Kanna that some fireflies were probably just around the bend. Leaning against a nearby tree she sighed with content surrounded by the comforting fragrance of the foliage around her.

Leaves rustled in a nearby bush and, quickly turning to find the source of the sound, Kanna spotted a tiny rabbit just a few metres away from where she was standing. Its tiny whiskers almost glowed, exaggerated by the darkness of the surroundings. It gazed at her with sympathetic eyes full of understanding. Slowly, it made its way through the trees, reminding Kanna that she still had somewhere to go. She continued on her path through the forest, but paused, looking over her shoulder to the spot where the rabbit had disappeared behind the trees, finding herself in a position where she had to make her decision. Should I follow the bunny through the rabbit hole..?
